Hello there! I'm Nikki & I am a craft connoisseur! I will try just about anything crafty once or twice. Besides loving colorful crafts & creating things I'm a teen mom (well not a teen anymore but I was 17 when I had my daughter.) I'm also an autism mom, bonus mom, cat mom, crafty mom, boss mom, I could go on but you get the idea. I decided I would do a post on 10 crafty things you should totally know about me so we can be besties!
1. How Old Was I When I Started Crafting?
This is a tough one because I don't remember a time when I wasn't crafting. I would say probably around 5 or 6 after I started school art was always my favorite subject (and my best). But I started getting serious with crafting when I was 16 or so I started scrapbooking when I was pregnant.
2. Favorite crafts to make?
I love making other people things that they can cherish. So the holidays are my favorite time of year. Besides gifts I love making my own home decor. Taking something I see at a store and making it unique to me and my home is one of my favorite things to do. I want my home to stand out as much as I do!
3. Craft supplies I can't live without!
All of them? But if we have to get serious...my hot glue gun, a great pair of scissors, a basic sewing kit, acrylic paint, & paint brushes. These are my holy grails!
4. A craft I haven't tried but want to.
I've tried so many kinds of crafts from painting, to sewing, paper crafts. I'd like to try embroidery or maybe wood working of some kind...even though power tools scare the F@!% outta me I'm just so clumbsy and I day dream so much I'd end up loosing a finger or something.
5. Favorite supplies to use.
A little different from my must haves but I adore glitter like I would bathe in it daily if that were hygienic but it is so bad for the environment I try to keep my usage of it to a absolute minimum or on projects I know I'm going to keep for a long time. Other than glitter paint is my favorite I absolutely love painting.
6. Favorite craft medium.
Painting is probably my first love, it's so calming to me I'll go on month long painting sprees. It's something I love doing for just myself even if no one else likes them. Photography is another thing I decided to keep for myself, I tried for a few years to be family/wedding photographer but it was so stressful with my anxiety, I had trouble getting clients, and never really felt comfortable charging people so I decided photography is something I do for people I love, and for me.
7. Favorite music to listen to when crafting.
I am one of those people who listen to almost all kinds of music, I was a total alternative kid in high school and Gerard Way was like God. But anything upbeat. I've recently been really into Sara Bareilles, Lizzo, and Pink. Cyndi Lauper is always a great go to. She's been a total inspiration to me since I was little.
8. Where do I find inspiration?
I find inspiration all over. I have been trying to not dive into Pinterest too much here lately it can be so overwhelming and I end up not liking something I've made because it doesn't look Pinterest perfect. Colors are super important to me. I love bright colors and patterns. I love going to museums and getting outdoors and finding inspiration in nature and around town.
9. Why do I craft?
I think it's important to create, to stand out, to be you. Crafting helps with my anxiety (most of the time...sometimes it causes anxiety) I really find joy in getting messy, covered in paint, and bringing some color to the world. My house would be a total rainbow glittered hot mess if I was left alone to long.
10. What do I do when I don't feel creative?
Burn out is something I have to deal with often, sometimes life gets busy. Work gets draining, running a business gets draining. It's important to refill your creative tank. As much as I would love to be a full time crafter. Sometimes taking a break can really help. I took about a week off from my crafting, blogging, YouTube, Etsy store recently and when I came back I was ready to jump around my craft room and get busy!
