So you've been selling on Etsy for a while and want to open another store on other design platforms, but your shop application is being denied and you aren't sure why? You get sales on Etsy, and have a good library of designs. Let's go over a few things that may be causing your shop to be denied.
The first reason your shop may being denied is that you don't have the right to sell the designs. I've ran into a shop or two on Etsy that has "purchased" one of my bundles and resold it at a insane discount. After explaining to this shop this is not allowed because if you didn't design it, you don't have a right to sell it. This applies to copyrighted/licensed designs like Disney, Marvel, etc. Etsy has been cracking down on shops selling designs that are copyrighted/licensed by shutting them down, but it will always be an issue to people not willing to put in the work. So if you are selling or reselling designs that haven't been created by you, most design platforms are not going to allow your shop to open.
OK now that we've talked about the big scary skeleton in the closet of selling SVG files, lets dive into a few things you can work on to get your shops open and start earning more money! Something I did earlier this year was update the look of my preview images, while doing this I also checked for any errors in the files and by updating my previews this did 3 things, the first being giving my shop a fresh uniform look! Because I fixed any errors I have less customer complaints or files I have to fix which gives that customer more of an incentive to come back and buy more files from me. I was also able to get rid of any listings that just weren't selling or had poor design quality. It was also fun to see my design evolution from my earlier designs to my newer designs.
So how is this going to help you get your store open? It will give the site administrators a fresh take on your store. It also makes your store POP! You can see in my older preview image I had a watermark on my design trying to deter people from just tracing my image and not purchasing it. But this can often confuse the customer as to what is part of the design and what is part of the preview, the people stealing your designs aren't the people you are trying to advertise to.
Another reason your shop may not be getting approved is your library of products are TOO niche, these are products that are so specific that they won't very good exposure, it's great to have items your customers are asking for and they may not be able to find in other stores. But by only providing these items your customer base is going to be very slim. By searching trends and providing seasonal essentials (Holidays, Sports, & Basic quotes) you are expanding your visibility and your customer base, making your shop more popular and a shop that other sites are going to want you on their platform!
Now that your store is looking smart, and all your designs are properly formatted and working properly this may be enough to try again and reapply for a store. If you are denied again, you can always email the website and ask what you can improve on to get approved. Don't be discouraged if you aren't approved the first time, most shops have been approved after reapplying. Remember all business can take some time to get off the ground, if you are enjoying the process and getting some rewards take it from there and grow with it. Don't let it dampen your love for design and want to sell digital products.
